Newbie breaks the fireback

Yes, I took my stove apart to clean it last night and took the refractory panels out. I've done this before with no problem. Last night when I set the rear panel down on the floor, it snapped in half. Unfortunately, I am without my toasty pellet stove the last two nights Fortunately, the dealer has a set in stock and the stove is under warranty. Yeah dealer! Be careful with those panels!!

Those breakable panels suck. My 2005 st croix
came with them and they cracked before I had
even removed them. I don't know about your
stove, but I contacted St croix when it happened
to me and they told me it was perfectly safe
to run the stove without and that the panels
were only for looks and served no other purpose.

I've since obtained a set of steel panels so the
cracking issues are a thing of the past thankfully.
The steel panels look great and they are trouble free.

Well, good experience at the dealer today. I brought the old, broken refractory panel in. They had new ceramic ones in but instead suggested the steel ones and sent me home with a new set of the steel panels. They look great!

Where did you get the steel panels?

My three piece panel set has been in six pieces since I bought my stove... I guess I didn't know they made steel ones.

How much, may I ask, were those suckers?

Mine were free....stove was still under warranty. Free is always a good price.

BeGreen my pic above shows the steel panels although
not in a Lopi Leyden.

krooser I don't know how much they cost. I got the
set as a prototype before they were actually available
to the public. Long story short, I happened to be in
the right place at the right time and got hooked up
with a prototype set. They've been in since last March
and show no signs of any problems. I highly recommend
them since it can't be too easy to put broken refractory
panels back into a stove after removing for cleaning.

zr1racing you should be able to order them from any dealer
who can order St Croix parts.
