I've been lurking for a few weeks and found a ton of great info, so I decided to join. This is our second year with a Hearthstone Homestead and I must say, we really look forward to the burning season. A few weeks ago, a chimney sweep broke the ceramic baffle in my stove (he's getting the bill) and with the help of some previous posts, I was able to disassemble my stove and replace a ceramic baffle in no time at all. Since that episode, I've decided to clean my own chimney and thanks to previous posts, it was a breeze. Sometimes it's better (and cheaper) to just do things yourself..

He wasn't familiar with the stove and while trying to figure out how to disassemble the burn tubes, he bounced the board and cracked it. It pretty much just crumbled onto the floor of the firebox. I ended up ordering a new one from Hearthstone through my dealer.
It sure seems like the hearthstone ceramic baffle is fragile.. The warnings are clearly staed in the liturature to stay clear of it. Do all stoves have a ceramic baffle? I have a clydesdale on order and i'm wondering if ordering a backup might be a good idea.. How much do they cost?

Agreed. Most chores are easier than they look. The piece of mind that you know how well it was done is nice too.
The downside is when a small chore turns into a full-blown project. LOL. We get through it, though, don't we ?

Not sure about other models, but I would imagine it's not too much different. The total cost with shipping was about $63
