Recently a contractor used a bitumen-based roof repair material to seal leaky storm collar on my furnace flue. It's warm now in Alberta so the furnace doesn't kick in much. Is this a problem in the short term?

A good quality silicone is what should have been used. Can you post a picture of the storm collar?
