I hear ya. First night here without a fire, too. This time of year there will be lots of starting up and letting them go out fires. It's harder to keep everybody in the house happy during shoulder season.

Only 211 days until the next burning season ==c

I came home late last night from work and was tired and feeling lazy. I was driving up to the house and thought you know, why not just skip a night? It was just above freezing and its easy to turn the furnace on. I looked at the stove which had been out since the overnight burn from the previous night and thought yeah no fire tonight. I went up stairs with full conviction and told my wife and kids I was taking the night off and got surprised looks back. My wife told me it was going to go down to -7 c overnight. That not having a fire thing lasted all of about 30 seconds. I went to the garage cut some kindling and had a top down fire going within minutes. Tonight ive just loaded her to the gills with Larch for an overnighter. Last night was a close one for me. _g

No fire here either.....down to the nitty gritty with wood, if we're lighting the stove, it's gonna have to be a cool day/night.

I thought I was the only one that got sad when burning season was over……..

Haven't had a fire here for a few days now. Yesterday it got up into the 80s here in western NC. I refilled the hot tub on Monday and expect to be soaking in it tomorrow. We just use the sunshine to heat the water and when I filled it from our spring it was 61 degrees and yesterday when I put the cover on it the thermometer was already reading 79 degrees. This time of year before the trees leaf out the spa gets full sun nearly all day long and heats up fast. This weekend it is supposed to drop back into the 60s and 40s at night, so "summer" isn't quite here yet, but it sure feels like it! Last night I had to run the whole house attic fan for about an hour to cool the house down to 75. We slept with all the bedroom windows open last night and I was still throwing the blankets off all night!

It's been an expensive heating season. It'll be nice to give the wallet a rest.

No fire last night, but it was chilly this morning with a forecast of high 40s and cloudy. So I fired back up for a low slow burn this morning. I actually noted last night it was the first evening without a fire as I went to bed, then I saw this thread. Guess we are all thinking it. But it is good timing.... almost out of wood for this season.

Quit your sniveling folks! You had your days of cold and now it's time for OUTDOOR warmth! Bring on the brats, stoke up the pellet smokers, open the pool, groan about how hot you are how your sweating your ass off, and see'yah next fall!

It's been real! Real cold that is. Now move your butts over to the BBQ forums and pool care blogs.

42, wet, chilly last night at 6:30, put on a fire and daughter and I watched "Brother Bear 2" disney movie on Netflix with popcorn. Not a bad movie. Fire this morning, 36 overnight low.
