Went out in the rain to cut that red elm. Got a nice bunch of wood and the bark peeled off like the peel coming off a ripe banana. Took a piece back to the house to see if it split like the first piece and one smack with the maul took it in half. These last two trees I took made me realize the condition of the tree your felling has alot to do with everything.

Great stuff. Not much Red Elm around here now,rare to see a live healthy one much over 10-12" diameter.Smells good (to me anyway) when sawing or splitting,somewhat like licorice or cinnamon.

It's almost as good as White Ash, BTU-wise.

picked up about a cord of red elm on a scrounge today. within 400 yds of the house. May try to hand split it for fun. Hate to have to bring the splitter to town. Suprised at how light it was. Been dead standing for few years.

You've got 30" rounds?!! I wish Red Elm would live that long around here. I don't think Dutch Elm Disease is as pervasive in TX as it is here...
