Noticed something odd in my PE Summit the last week or so...

Been burning 24/7 since November with this thing and it is a great stove! Have yet to turn my heat on even during the coldest days so far! Great investment as far as I am concerned. The last week or so though, I have noticed that if I shut down the primary air all the way I am getting secondary burn type flames shooting out of the boost manifold in the lower front portion of the stove as well as some slow dancing flame around the lower portion of the door area. Just started doing this a week ago and has me somewhat concerned. Any other Summit Series B owners notice this as well???

My Summit will do that as well, would be curious to know if it's normal. I'm not really concerned because the stove still works just fine.

Mine is a 2009 and it has done that on and off for as long as I can remember. Seems like different wood types and air cut back times trigger that, but most of all the wind and extreme cold that cause stronger draft seems to be when I notice it the most.
No problems from that occurrence now and then though.

Yep. I notice wisps of flame at the the lower door area maybe a little more on the latch side when I shut down the air quickly from full open to almost closed (like when I've left it on high too long come back and the stove's hotter than I wanted so I want to cool it quickly to prevent an overfire). If I open the air back a bit they'll usually go away. But am not concerned about it, and the flames I've seen at the boost manifold always seemed understandable. Note: I have a shorter chimney (under 20') so I never close it all the way else it will tend to smolder a bit.

Normal, will happen at shut down when the fire box is in the mid/upper to upper end of temps and air is closed down.
The flames near the door can seem like a door gasket leak, but I believe it is more coming from the front edge of the boost manifold (edge nearest the door).

I've been using my summit for the same amount of time as you and it has always done that if I close the air all the way. Never really gave it much thought as it never seemed to be a problem. At first I was expecting it to smoke up the glass at that point but the glass has stayed clean for the most part. I've found the sweet spot for my stove to be about an inch from closed unless I really need more heat.Been a very cold winter here so far and I'm very happy with its performance. I left it go out twice when we had 60 degree days but other than that I haven't touched the kindling.

Thanks for all the replies fellas I just wasn't sure if this was normal as I don't recall seeing it until recently. I'm glad to see this is normal.
