On page 13 of my manual it says "if possible connect the [stove] with the 4" diameter fresh air adapter. Are these things universal and standard? In other words if I go to Lowes can I buy one that will work with my stove? I think I really want an OAK in this year ...

The manual doesn't make clear what is needed other than saying a fresh air adapter. If the OAK hole is 4" round you may be able to use a standard 4" start collar to attach to the stove and 4" aluminum dryer vent.

I am liking the looks of that idea ... it doesn't matter how long the run of pipe is right just that it opens to the outside?

Yes, the length of the run matters. Can you keep it under 15 ft.? Too much pipe will add air resistance and one should go up a size to 5", then reduce to 4" at the stove.
