I have an older, mid-90's, Brinkman smoker. The steel is decent thickness, not sheet metal. The legs were rusted where they join the body, so I cut them off, now I have just the body. I made some mods to even out the heat distribution and made a coal basket.

Looking for suggestions on what I can use for a base short of building a wood cart for it.

Aw, f'getaboutit, taking it to the scrap yard. Gonna get a nice weber kettle for coal/wood cooking.

If it still has life in it, put it on your local freecycle network or craigslist. Someone is bound to pick it up quickly at this time of year.

Weld on some angle iron legs and you're good to go. No welder? Great excuse to buy one. A few years back I found a 135 amp MIG welder setup w/CO2 tank and gas that runs on 110V for $100 on Craigslist. It won't weld 1/2" plate but it's done the trick a few random times I had to join two pieces of metal.
