Oh, Oh that smell.

Hey all, I found one post on this with no real answer. Twice now ( both damp days) I have noticed our insert while burning smells like burning plastic outdoors. No visible smoke and stoves seems to be running fine.Any ideas? is this common?

This isn't a new installation, is it? Have you re-siliconed the exhaust pipes at all recently?

Installed 2 months ago. All is good with install, tech went over it on the 23rd.

MY insert is about 25 feet high I never smell anything, what kind of pellets u burning

We are at the 22 foot mark and using Barefoot super premium.

Can you provide details on what the install is like? Does it go up through a chimney? You only smell it outdoors, correct?

Yes 22 feet up through a chimney .No oak installed. Only smell it outdoors usually when rainy. No smell in house except for the once in awhile wood pellet upon start up.

Could just be the old chimney soot getting warmed up with some moisture and escapes. I smelled some very acrid creosote.

I agree with Bioburner. I think because of the cold rain, the smoke cooling and is dropping down to the ground where you can smell it.
