Ok, back again. DIY fixers, have a question for the englander 25 shp 10.

I have the back panel open. The smell is coming from middle bottom behind the blower so to speak. Need to know what is under what is covered with black insolation. Dont want to pull that off unless I might need to replace. Ive had co detector come on after 1 hour. Had a pellet person come but he thought it was the piping and we redid but now im still smelling and got almost to the source but cant figure out where its coming from. I can take a pic if needed.

there is a blow up of all the parts ,you will see what you are looking for .You probably need a gasket . There is also a phone # for factory help .Don't be afraid to call

Post the picture ,it might be help full . I think gasket 6 or 10 maybe . I guess 15 might also be a possibility

Sorry I have never had it apart ,but if you call Englander ,they will send you a video that shows how to disassemble the whole stove . The disc is free you just have to pay shipping ,which isn't much . I think I will order one my self . You will need to order the gaskets from them any way . I still don't know if you have the out side air duct installed .

That is good that means it was likely installed correctly . Are you going to call Englander and get them to send you the disc?

as for a "smoke leak" the thing to think about is this. pellet stoves work under "negative draft" meaning the combustion air is "pulled" through the stove then "blown" out the exhaust, with that in mind the only places you should fine a leak which is "pushing "smoke out would be at the exhaust blower or in the pipe as any leak before the exhaust blower would be sucking air in not blowing it out.


p.s. check your cleanout cap if its indoors , they are notorious for leaking. if its outside no need as its outside.

I did do the leak test tonight with the lighted peice of paper with the stove off. Funny thing. There was a smoke leak in the gasket just below where the hopper connects to the pellet feed. And even more interesting. On the left side of this gasket it is sticking out visable. In the front it is covered with shiny black silicone. and the right side the same with silicone. ? why. And why not on all sides? To me it looks like it was installed lop sided and they covered a possible leak with the silicone instead of taking apart and putting back together. However, now im thinking of mikes post of should only leak in exhaust area. Why up there? I'm still smelling smoke but not as badly now. Will wait for the co detector to beep after and hour as I sealed the spot on the right that had the leak.Mike, i emailed you at your email addy here. I also ordered gaskets for the exhaust blower. And the one behind the blower just in case. Also when the paper was burning, there was smoke shooting out left front and right front on the bottom below the door. Why? Also the clean out t is on inside now. The pellet guy said its fine inside. I had it outside. Told him it leaks but he said shouldn't. So, i took out my black silicone and siliconed the bottom shut on the cap. And foil taped the seam where you remove the cap. Would like to post a pic of the back of the machine to show the silicone on 2 sides unless anyone has a problem with that. Please let me know.

I think you have to figure out where that smoke is coming from . I don't think it is coming threw that silicone . Make some more smoke and look close.

is the stove running when you do this? if so the exhaust blower doesnt seem to be running. or the exhaust path itself is not open , otherwise the smoke would be sucked out through the vent not leaking out into the room

OK, so what did you find out?

Well they asked me lots of questions but decided to start from the beginning. First, we will get a new door gasket and see if that doesnt do the trick. And work are way around. I dont know how the door gasket makes smoke smell in the back but Im willing to go and try everything to see. So they sent out one today and should get it in the next couple of days. Well go from there. Thanks for the interest.

When you did the test with the burning paper and the stove not running the smoke coming out of the left and right front under the front of the stove was coming out of the two small holes under the front of the stove where it draws air for the door glass airwash. With the stove not running air wasn't being drawn through those holes so the smoke took the path of least resistance.

Thanks for that answer. Yes, if looking straight at it it looked like puff the magic dragon spouting fire from its nostrils. So thats how the window is supposed to stay clean.

Yes, those 2 holes draw air in and it washes over the glass to try to keep the ash off.
