Good Morning,
Just wondering if any of you are having a problem with a severe permiating odor coming from Okanagan pelletts purchased this year? This is the first year that I have used them. Looking for the source, I had my main heating system gone over with a fine tooth comb, looked for a possible dead animal and the source came down to the pellets. The pellet stove is my secondary source for heat. I used Dry Creek for years and never had this odor before.

The Okies i've tried have a very strong smell too, akthough i wouldnt associate it with a dead animal. They give great heat and have very little ash, but the smell is a little different. A friend at work who just tried them says his wife dosent like the smell, and its the same with my wife.

The Okies I have do have a strong scent to them, but they smell like fresh cut pine.
The Green Supremes and LGs I have been burning the last few years also have the strong
pine scent too. No complaints here.

I burned a few different sample brands last month that smelled like melting wax or crayons.
Now that was a gross smell

I have not really noticed any odor at all while burning. My sense of smell is terrible though. But my wife is usually sensitive to smells like that and she has not complained at all.

I'll have to remember to start blaming those funky smells in my house on the pellets instead of the dog from now on.

Ok, now this is a first, I have NEVER had anyone tell us that the pellets smell like a dead animal... Fresh, outdoorsy, piney, woodsey, reminds them of a campfire, fresh cut lumber, most people comment they LOVE the smell....but never a dead animal...but to each his own.. I guess you can't please everyone....sorry the ladies don't like the smell.

:-) Thanks for the laugh ..... just TOO FUNNY !

BTW .. mine do smell, but like wood...not a dead animal

Nope, sorry, you can't do that Turd. You don't have the "funky Okies" in your signature line...... The dog still gets the blame (for everything).

I bet they smell just like fresh cut pine LOL.

My wife can't smell, so I don't have to blame it on the dog!

last year, I brought in 1/2 a ton of NEWP softwood pellets, and they were much more "fragrant" than the other brands I had in the house...made the whole basement smell like a christmas tree. I walked past a pallet of oakies at BJ's the other day, and they had the same smell. I think its just that its "softwood".

Infernos were the worst I have ever run across.

No idea what the heck they put in them but they smelled really bad, burned lousy, and
every bag I got was loaded with atleast 2 cups of chunky fines.
But you already knew this ;-)

first time I purchased them yesterday, fresh cut pine smell to me.

I remember reading an older post about someone who said they smelled like "cat spruce", or maybe dead cat spruce?

Must be one of those special species of spruce known only to exist in Maine......

Mine too! I liked the smell. Thought about doing what hemi did. In the cup holder as an air freshener.

Probably smells like dead beetles.

Bkins

I have two unopened bags of Okies and the room they are in
smells so awesome because of them (fresh pine) that I don't want to burn
the pellets!

Maybe BTU can check with the production dept. and see if they are missing any staff on the production line. That could account for the dead animal smell....just sayin'

by the way, what's the BTU spec for the okies ? nothing on the bag.

The Spruce Pointe bags I got say 8700 which is very good.

ok, thanks....

burned almost a bg,

-black soot on the right side of the glass,
-not too much ash
-ash from the Greene Team is more fluffy/light and brown
-ash from okanagan is darker

good heat, good pellet.
