Okanagan platinum. Vs. Vermont pellets

Just curious if anyone has used both of these pellets ? I had been burning Vermont's and happy with them. I purchased 1/2 ton of Okie platinums figuring they would be a close match. I have to say I'm a little disappointed from pellet size to the rate they burn . Seems like they burn much faster than Vermont's?

I had great luck with the Okie Platinums last year, less so this year. I posted a review in this sub-forum a few weeks ago.

I will say though that my stove feeds pretty much the same no matter what's in the hopper.

There is a reason for that. Okies don't produce pellets for North america. they buy from whoever they can and put it the okie bag. From July of 2013 till November of 2014 they bought their Platinums from the best pellet manufacturing brand in North America. It is from a very well known brand in the Northeast. In november they changed suppliers. That is why you see the big difference from last year. Anything after November is being produced from a different supplier.

The bulk of okanagan product goes export. They own the name AND barcodes. Until recently, for the last year and a half it's been bulk shipped from Lacrete to be put in Okie bags. The new supplier is out of BC and just started production after they bought a plant out of receivership. So we may have a winner in the best softwood pellet out there. Lacrete produced their own brand, Okies, and a well know brand in Wisconsin know as Uncle Jed's. So now you know the rest of the story. (courtesy of Paul Harvey)

That is correct! they are Bear Mountain. The okie Gold's come out of Georgia Biomass, a yellow pine pellet. All pellets that travel in bulk to be bagged suffer deterioration on the trip. They end up with 12-15% sawdust. This is then pelletized for a second time and added back in with the pellets.Some think this impact's the quality, other's don't. I can't say for sure.

Just tried a couple of bags of Vermont pellets. They burn super clean and put out decent heat and have a very pleasant fragrance. There was nothing to scrape out of the burn pot this morning. I have tried Okie Platinums and they are similar but at least with my stove, the Vermont pellets win out.

Good information on the pellet supply lines. Would explain why LaCretes and Okie Platinums burn the same
