Question:

When first starting a vented gas log set, is it necessary to open a window or door (to ensure a good draft)?

Answer:

It is important to make CERTAIN that an updraft is started when turning on your logs. You can simply use a candle or match to determine that an updraft is present. If it is not, a small piece of newspaper inserted in the damper area and ignited will often reverse the chimney upwards.
