Osburn 2400 Insert vs BlazeKing Princess Insert

Hi, been researching wood inserts for sometime and have come down to the Osburn 2400 Insert vs BlazeKing Princess Insert. Only reason I am not sold on the Osburn is due to the BK Princess good reviews, etc. I know its cat vs non-cat. Still trying to justify the BK though. Will I have to baby the BK? Learning curve to it with switching the valve for the cat when its at temp, etc? I know wet wood is a no no in any wood stove. Especially in a cat stove. I do want the ability to burn any type of wood any time although most of my supply on hand is mostly ash, oak, and maple.

Any info or advice welcome.

No problem, the Princess will burn any kind of wood as long as it is reasonably well seasoned. From all reports here it is a robust stove that runs itself. Light it in October and put it out in April.

If you want the blaze king princess go for it. There is nothing to be afraid of about it having a cat especially since it sounds like you already have a great understanding of the fact that you should be burning dry wood.

Marcom, Welcome to the forum. I have the osburn 2400. I love the unit. It puts out a ton of heat. It's built like a tank. Glass always stays clean. Awesome secondaries. Long burns. All at a very reasonable price at http://www.dynamitebuys.com

That being said, if I had the space to keep 2 years or more of wood on my property, I would have seriously looked into the BK princess. Longer burns and BK owners are crazy in love with their stoves.

Honestly I end up burning wood that is often less then fully seasoned because I only have space to store just over one year of firewood. I'm also a carpenter so I burn a lot of construction debris. So for me I wanted to be able to burn not so great wood without worries of damaging the unit, so I went with a non cat. I'm very happy with my decision. Hope that helps.

Thanks for the info. I to am in construction and would use scraps of normal lumber in it, not engineered glue crap scraps. I'm pretty sold on the BK. I found a place I can get it for only $300 more than the Osburn 2400.

Go for it man. That sounds awesome. Burn dry wood in that sucker and based on every single BK owner on this forum you will love it.

I also don't have a lot space for wood. I was dead stuck on the princess but the fact of only bein able to store about 4 or 5 cords on my property has led me to more searching. I keep coming across the osburn 2400. My question is, are the burn times in the osburn any where close to that of the princess insert? I know the BK will burn longer but just how much longer do y'all think from experience?

I know in order to get the LONG burns ya more than likely need a cat stove so let me rephrase. Should I let the fact of only being able to let my wood season for 13 or 14 months affect rather ornot I go with the princess or 2400

I wouldn't let it affect my decision since it really doesn't matter whether it's a cat or not you still need dry wood. If your wood isn't dry you will be fighting the same problem with either stove. What type of wood are you planning on burning as some such as Pine, and Ash would probably be dry enough within 13 months to burn without a problem. On the other hand if we are talking about oak that's another story.

Both stoves are great stoves. Either way I think you will enjoy them. Just burn dry wood and you'll be all set!

I would consider myself a wood snob for the fact of seasoning time. Ash, locust, cherry, sycamore and hedge. Hedge, jus for the simple fact I have access to hundreds of hedge trees that have been down ten plus years and off the ground so their already pretty darn dry. I have one stack of oak that has been c/s/s for two years, leason learned right there!

Marcom, I don't know the burn times of the princess but BK owners really praise those stoves. What I can say is that the Osburn 2400 on a full load of hard wood, on a well established coal bed probably puts out 6 hours of good heat with the ability for a relight over 13 hours in my experience.

The 2400 is a little larger than I need so I usually only load 3/4 or less on most occaisions.

Also worth noting: it is common that I get the stove up to 700* and the stove seems very comfortable at those temps. Hope that helps.

I can get 12+ hrs on a load and the heat is consistent thru the burn cycle. Just set the thermostat and forget about it. The bi-metallic coil for the air control/thermostat is great. This is the 1st CAT stove that I have owned and I wouldn't go back to a non CAT stove.

Ya, I am not knocking other stoves and everyone has the right to a personal choice of a stove. I am just happy with my choice !

I have a friend with a Princess insert. We were visiting at his place last winter and it just was amazing the heat he was getting out of that stove with a small bed of coals plus a few 3-4" rounds. The combination of cat and thermostat make a really easy to run stove that just puts out the heat.

Personally....I'd go with the Princess. In fact, if I could find someone to trade a Princess even up for my Fireview, I wouldn't hesitate to do it!

I never believed what everyone was saying about the stove until I actually used it last year. It is everything that all of the BK owners said it would be.
