Oslo Blowback- Update on the Air Control Dilemma

Dumbo here tried a new tactic to free the air control: spraying WD-40 into the lever slot in a hot stove. A lovely blowback flame
nearly singed my well trimmed beard. In a word: don't do it.
Jotul says that it is a problem with the Oslo and Firelight that MAY have a solution or recall or fix ---not specific.
In the meantime the doghouse air control has no imperfections, no furnace cement, nothing to interfere with the control operating.
But it does.
When the weather warms ( Mr Gore where are you ??) I will take it apart agian using high tem grease or "Never Sieze" to coat the sliding plate.....again.

Any better solutions other than Bneding the lever arm ?

I just go in there and dump powdered graphite. I did this at the beginning of the season and it's been ok so far. Probably have to do it again in a month or so.

There have been a few reports here in the past year of the dealer getting a newly designed control arm from the factory that seems to have solved the issues for the affected customers. There was a thread where someone did a side-by-side comparison to note the differences. I'd pester your dealer for the same replacement part.

It was actually a local rep that gave me the part. I wish I had a number for it, but like I said, it is different than the old one.
See if you can go to the store and match up one to the part in your stove. Go from there.

I bought a new Oslo this summer, shipped in directly from the warehouse, and presumably with the redesigned part(s). So far the slide has shown no tendency to stick or misbehave in any manner.

I have the 600 Firelight which had the very sticky air control lever. There is a new handle which cuts down on how hard the lever operates. The old lever has almost a 45 degree bend and tends to get (stuck) in that area. The new one has a gentle curve through out the operating range. I still find it easier to adjust the new handle with gentle taps with a wooden toy hammer from my sons block set. The attached pics are what the new handle looks like and the toy hammer for easy adjustment. As a side benny I dont have to put my gloves on to adjust the air any more. Maybe Jotul could make this an accesory item? (The wooden hammer that is) Hope this info helps.

Agree that the new handle is much nicer. I still don't know if it is a new design or a replacement part. I did get one, anyone else???

When I bought the stove a year ago, I had the stove shop out to the house three times to fix this issue. They put in the new design handle and was good for about a month. Sprayed high temp grease and graphite at different times. After a month it was stuck again. It works hard from half to closed. I use a six inch piece of 3/8" black iron pipe, works good and keeps my hand from getting singed. Other than this problem, I love the stove. More heat with less wood.

Same here . . . new stove purchased this summer and so far no issues with the Oslo's slide although I knew going into the purchase that this could be a possible issue.
