P43 performing yeomans duty

Got up this morning @ 6:30 and the house was 58 degrees. Hmm, the furnace runs from midnight to 8:00 with the P43 starting up at 8:00. Check the Propain thermostat and it's calling for heat but no furnace. cycle it off then back on and it starts up but no hot shoe glow for start up. Start up the P43 and go back to bed till 8:30. Family room is approaching 70 by now and the rest of the house is at 60. Take the wife out to lunch and get the papers and by mid afternoon all is back to normal temps. Checked furnace and it needs a new hot shoe at least so we're running on all pellet heat till I can get the parts. If I was chucking wood I be warm times two but I couldn't have kept things going while I was gone. Man I love this thing!!

I run the P43 12 hrs a day and the Propain the rest. I need to burn a minimum of 500 gallons of the gas or I get penalized. Put a new hot shoe in the furnace so I have both heats back in service. Burned 416 gallons since last March so I'm looking at about 600 gallons for the year.

Can your P43 heat the house sufficiently on its own? What else do you use propain for? Maybe you're in a good position to tell your gas company to **** off altogether, or at least get a smaller tank contract if you use it for cooking, DHW, etc. Run the furnace once in a while to keep it tip top, if that's even necessary.

I understand that companies base the PPG on your usage, and I don't know how much they penalize you, but that practice is straight up BS. I can understand it being $.25 more per gal if you only use X amount, but at least around here, the difference is well over $1, sometimes more. Why isn't it that way with oil? Ya, there's the 100-150 gal minimum for the cheaper price, or the pay within 5 days price, but around here that difference is a measly dime per gallon! The fuel companies have to drive the truck to your house anyway, what's the problem? Tank maintenance? Doubt it.

How dare you try and reduce your fuel bill!

Yes it can heat the house but the rest of the story is my workshop is also heated with Propain and I have a backup generator so the option to get a smaller tank won't work. I'd like to keep at least 200 gallons on hand in case of a power failure. My house is 2250 sq ft and my workshop is another 1600 plus DHW.. I'm not that comfortable heating my shop with wood or pellets as it is a woodshop and it gets a little dusty in there at times.

I went ahead and bought my tank. My propain company kept trying to pull crap on me also. Now I get my tank filled once per year, usually 250-300 gallons. That takes care of occasional furnace usage, cooking range, gas grill, hot water, clothes dryer and occasional shop furnace usage. No tank rental, contract fee ect. and I can shop for gas and get the self owned tank price.
