Hello, I recently acquired a fairly rough (IMO) papa bear with plans of "restoring" and was giving it a look over after getting my trailer in garage and noticed daylight through a horizontal seam under the flue. My mama bear does not have this seam, so I'm assuming this is not normal and could lead to potential draft issues. Any reason why I can't or shouldn't weld a bead across this after sandblasting and cleaning it up? Any help or suggestions is appreciated, thanks.

The rear plate should be one piece. V groove and weld it solid.
