Newbie here. I've gotten alot of great info already from this site. Bought a PE Super two weeks ago. Already have my liner in. Problem is, having trouble getting delivery of the unit at my dealer. They had the older model on display with the square ashlip and tried to sell me that model. When I balked and asked for either a discount or the newer model, I was told it will take longer to get the new model as PE is trying to clear out older inventory.
Does this sound right or am I getting jerked around? Seems like the Super is readily available through online dealers.
 
I would call some other PE dealers locally and ask if they had the new style stoves in stock. If every other dealer says they are selling the new ones, I would tell your current dealer to either knock off a couple hundred dollars on the display or you'll be taking your business elsewhere. For me, 200 bucks would seem fair for taking a discontinued style off of a showroom floor.
 
Did you pay for the new model or for last year's model?

If you payed for the new model and offered to take the old one at a discount in lieu of the yet undelivered new model I can't imagine why your dealer wouldn't go for it.

Did they tell you you'd be waiting several weeks for delivery?
 
The dealer did tell me it would be 2-3 weeks, and it's only been 2 weeks sofar. I did specify the newer model. It just seems rather shady to sell a discontinued unit at the same price as the new model, unless the customer knows enough to inquire.
I'll take the advice to call around to other dealers and see what their estimated delivery is on the newer Super model.
I'm probably just getting the itch to install and fire up the new stove. It's been about 18 years since I heated with wood and that was a Ben Franklin stove!
 
Well. . . it is their prerogative to sell their stoves for whatever they feel the market will bear regardless of model. IMO it's not shady. It's not like they're hiding the fact. Shady would be selling last years stove AS this years stove.

I agree and will add that you have already waited 2 of the 3 weeks stated upfront.
From your posts I feel like they were very upfront with you . I would give them the 3rd week and see if it comes in.
If it were my shop I would not discount it till spring, in the hopes somebody wants that stove right now and doesn't care if it is a discontinued model and is willing to pay full price. some people get crazy because they put off stuff till the last min.

It's true that most "advertised" discounts don't occur until spring through early fall. However, you can pretty much "always" barter irt the final price and a 10-15% discount really isn't much (percentage wise) to ask for on something anyway. The ole' 10% "sale" price is typically the standard holiday, military, senior, etc. type discount and should generally not be too hard to get if you talk to the manager or owner. In the Summer I've seen stove dealers discount as much as 30% so 10-15% isn't much by comparison. The store doesn't loose anything by giving you the discount because they're "still making a sale" and it's not like selling you a stove means they can't sell someone else a stove. I.e. if they would otherwise have sold 15 of those stoves between now and spring your sale would give them 16 which means a little more in the net profit column regardless of what you pay. Always barter, someone will be willing to deal iot avoid having your $$ go down the street... It really all comes down to “do they want to make a sale or not”…
 
Hi there, Im in MI too...just north of GR. I purchased my stove from here www.alternativeheatingandfuel.com they are located near Baldwin. My Summit was uner $1600 OTD when I purchased it back in 2007. Ive been VERY happy with my stove so far. My furnace doesnt run unless .....we're not home...LOL

I should probably know this but what's OTD stand for? A dealer here has a "Super" for $1750.

Both you and SharpMaul (actually, any PE owner) might want to skim over the following thread. It's a tad long but goes from "one guy with a PE firebox problem" to 5 DIFFERENT people all having similar isues. The other 4 probably wouldn't even know they had a problem had they not read the thread in the first place. I hope neither of you experience what these others have recently discovered.

EDIT: Thanks Highbeam for telling me OTD=Out the door in post 10 (below). I'm editing this instead of making a new post & extending the thread. I'm assuming that OTD price didn't include sales tax. If it did you got an even better deal (Wowsa!).

I ordered a Super 27 from The Chimney Sweep. I think he postes on here. They are in Washington and I live in Ky. . The price was $1450.00 and $320.00 shipping. It was cheaper than buying it straight from a local dealer here and the customer service has been excellent. I dont remember how long it took to get it once I ordered it , but I think it was about 2 weeks.
Awsome stove...
