Feeling the Heat

Our area HD & Lowe's are carrying certain brands of pellets and they are different than last year. I have an Englander 25-PDV and last year I had good luck with Hamers and Presto's from our local stores. However, this year I am limited to Nature's Own, Cheat River, Timber Heat, Instant Heat, Maine Woods, Green Supreme, New England and Green Team. I have put them in the order of how I rate them and I was looking to see if anyone could shed a little light. My head is spinning after reading all the reviews for each brand!! All are $207 a ton (with discount) and I could get Hamers for $300, but I can't justify spending an extra $100. Any help would be beneficial because I need to make move.

Thanks, John

This never a straight forward answer . Always try before you buy ! That being said last year I burnt 10 tons of Green Supreme with no issues and a lot of people turn their noses up at them . I found them to be ashy but great heat .

I just tried again:( Natures own and was bridging in the hopper and stopping the stove and they smell strange when burning.

I agree with trying them, but the problem is that it's not that cold here yet so I will cook everyone out!!! A big thumbs down about Natures Own considering that was my top choice to date, SMH!!! I guess the family will be quite warm sooner than later?!?!?!

How do you smell them burning? Isn't the burnpot area under negative pressure?
We are not up to our waists in snow yet to prevent us from working outside. With the Vikings being so poor yesterday afternoon I got a new brake controller installed so we can retrieve a couple more tons of pellets:)

Oh so you are talking about the smell outside?
Yes, better not have any smell from the stove inside or I am going to have more work trying to get things sealed up.

I love the smell outside when the stove is running.

Has anyone of you had any good or bad luck with the pellets I listed??

I may love a pellet that you have and vice versa. Pellet preference is all subjective. You really need to try a few bags of each to see which suits you best.

LOL!!! It's just a little too warm yet to fire up the stove but I think I will take the advice of some of you and buy a couple bags of different ones on these cooler mornings.

I didn't think the Green Teams were "horrible" for a lower priced pellet..
Some of the others.. well... you can read about those here too.

If you can get Green Teams for $209 a ton I would try them. Green Team not Green Supreme. Green Surpremes stink in my opinion. Green Team is a very descent pellet and usually priced higher at Lowes

My apologies because I accidentally put that I could get green team for $209 a ton when in fact that is not the case they are nearly a dollar more a bag!

Newburgh Lowe's received a truckload of Presto's this afternoon and I got 3 ton . It pays to have friends who work there and keep there eyes peeled!!!!
