So, all along I've heard articles about Pellet shortages all over.. Here in North Eastern /Central Pennsylvania, the price per ton is roughly in the 230 range. I went to the hardware store where i bought my 3 tons back in May because they were actually airing commercials on how there was going to be a shortage. So, i had a look and they are loaded with pellets. I checked at Tractor Supply and they had about 40 ton on their parking lot for 239.50. Home Depot and Lowes all had them as well. So far, i would not say we are in a shortage. I think supply is currently outweighing the demand thus far. Of course it is early, but the way they painted the picture, if you didn't get pellets in the spring, you weren't getting any.

I am on the PA/OH line and I do not see a problem.
TSC $238 a ton (outside storage)
Lowes $298.50 a ton (on open air racks in garden center)
Kinsman Stoves $220.00 a ton (all indoor storage)

It's nice to hear that the Pellet Prices in your Area stay normal. You must feel good as well as lucky that the hype or greed has not reached you yet.
I feel the big box stores stirred everything up as they raised their prices, so everyone else followed.

That was three different Lowes locations.
I call three Home Depots and at each location the Employees in Seasonal laughed at me saying it is still summer so why would I want pellets. I guess you get what you pay for.

he aint kidding, he's loaded! i was there last weekend. "pro-pellets" burned some in the CPM i installed in akron(different story) burned quite well. though i do have to say that our local TSC does store all their pellets indoors as well, but they cant match his prices here either.kinsman stoves said:

I camp 3 minutes from their plant (it is actually Mifflintown, PA) and was always told by the locals that they don't sell to individuals. I was not aware they sold by tractor trailer load.
Also, I drove past my stove shop last night and saw he had 40+ tons sitting in his lot. Bought them for $189 in April, but was told they are $255/ton as of a couple of weeks ago.

I am not trying to burst your bubble or rain on your parade but please know what you are getting into before you attempt that. Yes it has been done before and will be done after this. Trucking Companies and Drivers get very mad if you do not unload the trailer correctly and in a timely manner. You also need the equipment to unload a truck and people that know what they are doing. If you damage a trailer you will be charged. If someone gets hurt, that is another issue. Most trucking companies will not deliver to a location other than a commercial business. They have a certain liability that has to be met. If the driver is not satisfied with the location and does not feel the cargo can be unloaded safely he can drive away. This is not unloading a ton of pellets from a pick up truck.

If one adds everything up it's probably the same price then what we have to pay here.
What makes it expensive is the empty run to the Pick up Point, especially if you get a local Company from our area. And there a couple of other logistics involved too. Which could be solved.
So all we can do is dream again - lol
