I have a question concerning the installation of a pellet stove. Where we are currently planning on installing the stove the exhaust pipe will be vented approximately 12 inches from the outside unit of our heat pump. One person has told us that the exhaust will tear the heat pump up and another person told us that the exhaust will cause a little film on the heat pump that can be easily washed off and will cause no damage to the heat pump. What is your take on this? Do you think we should pick another wall to avoid the heat pump all together?

I'd take a look in the manual...The should have clearances to windows- etc....this will give you an idea...also- you can put a 45 degree or 90 degree elbo on the end of the pipe...and this should push the products of combustion away from the heat pump. You can use these elbows instead of the normal wall termination.
