I want to vent 3" pellet vent through the wall. How much of vertical rise to I need to be effective to create draft and yet not be too close to eave overhead?

I have asked the Mods to move your post to the pellet stove section (currently in pellet review section), so more people will see it and help you with your question.

What Daksy says is true. However, some rise is usually suggested by the stove mfg in case of power outage (check your manual) - then there would be enough draft to help keep smoke out of the house.
