Pellets for Harman P43

Any reccomendations on the best type of pellets to purchase for my stove ?

If you search through some of the threads here you'll find that many Harman owners including myself have found that these stoves burn a wide variety of brands well. What choices do you have in your area?

I put my money for our Harmans and Quad on Okanagan Gold and Okanagan Douglas Fir this year! Okies for short.

MikeNH is correct. I have tried many different pellets and actually the only small issue I had was with a "super premium" pellet.

What was the issue with the Super Premiuns? We're they hard or soft wood?

No. The 100% softwood were exactly that, 100% softwood. They only did a small run once a year. They did not do them this year. Their normal bags are a blend of 65% hardwood and 35% softwood. Or there abouts. And they do just fine for me. I like buying a look locally made pellet sold by a small local company. Probably won't be buying okies anytime soon. Okies are too expensive too.

I burned Somerset, Michigan Wood Fuels, Magic Spark, Pro Pellets, American Pellets (a small company in Corinne MI), and Kirtland last year. They all burned well with no apparent problems in my p43.

I have tried just about every pellet in my area at one time or another. I grab 5 bags or so once in while just to see how the XXV digests them. Seen funny colors, clinkers, and lots of ash on lesser pellets. Sometimes even loud noises as the auger bites down on longer then normal sized pellets. But the end result is always heat. The only brand I would say stay away from is BMT. A buddy bought these out of desperation and they wouldn't burn because the burlap bag allowed in to much moisture. He was able to get them through his p43 by mixing them with the Geneva I sold him.

Don I sure you you are right because I have a lot of them this year. Some platinums too!

I have burned Wood Pellet Co, AWP, Hamer's Hot Ones and Green Gold from lowes ( I think that is where they were from, I bought them from a guy up street) and some green bag Lignetics, all have burned well, Been doing Hamer's mainly last year and this year coming up.

I've burned platinums for years and have been quite happy with the results. I upgraded to DF due to a shortage of platinums around my area. I still have 22 bags left over from last year.

With a Harman P Series, I don't think there is any Best pellet to burn.
with the Auger system u shouldn't have any problems burning pretty much anything..
it all boils down to Price, amount of ash, and heat..
I have burned HD Stove chows and Energex Hardwoods and aside from more ash, don't see much difference..

Penningtons, I don't know if they were holdover or what, but stove hates em. Bought four bags at Wally world and figured could use them in the biscuit cutter to cut the corn if need be. Can hardly keep the fire going blended with corn in the Harman and the temp gauges indicate lower fire. Will use em to cut the feed for the Bixby only. Tried now for the second time. I even had to pay tax!
