Pellets from Home Depot, do you use them?

So I am almost out of my 3 tons of the Okie Golds I got with my stove when I purcahsed it back in July. Many pellet places around me in CT have pellets by the ton which are $330-$350 per ton which is insane IMO. I got a better softwood pellet that I am happy with (the oakies). Home Depot has pellets coming in today and they are $249 per ton not sure of the brand yet but they are Premium pellets whatever that may be.

I know my Harman XXV will burn pretty much anything but will be stove gum up and or clump up more than my Oakies? I need another ton to get me through the year, the Oakies at the time were $269 per ton now $299 per ton but with a 10% off coupon I will get the HD premiums (I will know later) at about $225 for the ton.

Local HD had the same pellet as another big box store but were charging more. Indeck. Burning very well this season blended with corn.

HD can get good pellets in depending on the store. One near me had a supply of American Wood Fiber Ultras that burned well in my stove.

How are Green Teams? My inlaws have them and got them from HD but havent burned them yet

Not a joke. I use them in my rabbit's cage all the time. Really helps keep the smell down.

I had a rabbit when we had an apartment and I told my wife (gf at the time) I didnt want that thing at our house. It smelled terrible and it chewed wires, couch corners, anything plastic it was a menace.

I've gotten all the FSU's that the Hastings likes at HD. Also found another brand there that my Harman thinks is fine and better than what I got at a dealer this year (although others have had issues with that particular brand).

Also, once you find out what kind they get in, you can go look at the dedicated review section. However, that may not be as helpful as you might like as almost every pellet has their haters, and very few don't get at least some people for whom it works fine for.

You might get lucky? My local HD sold Somersets but I do live fairly close to where they are made. Let us know what you find. Good Luck!

It's worth calling Tractor Supply if there's one nearby. They don't deliver, but usually have someone who will. Or you can do what I've done and just bring 10-15 bags at a time home until you get a ton.

I just called the local Tractor Supply and they have Premier wood pellets and a ton is $252. Not sure if those are any good or not

They are made by Energx* I found online thats about it

HD stores around here all have North American Wood Pellets and I wouldn't burn those if THEY paid ME.

I have burned a ton of Green Supremes this winter and have had no issue other than I had to bump my combustion fan up a notch to get them hot. Other than that, they were cheap and kept me warm.

Tim is a member of the "Pellet snob" group. Just look at his sig: "6 tons at $345 each". You can clearly see money is not a concern for him, the "best of the best" is. So, don't ask him what to buy if you're on a budget. He does have good advice on battery backup stuff and the like though.

I'm on the opposite side of the spectrum. My sig should read:

US Stove King: $1000
6.5 tons of various pellets: No more than $250 each
Second hand shop vac from my father in law: $FREE
Not having to get a Propane fill this winter: OUT F**KIN' STANDING

Now let's have a beer in my 78°F house!

HD here had Stove Chow, I tried a few bags, not that great in my opinion. TSC had their own brand "Quality Pellets", not so great either, but in a pinch what ever..

What you need to do is what a lot of us do. While you have a good burning pellet supply buy a couple of bags of this and that pellet. They either burn the way you like or they don't. If they don't then mix them in with the ones that do till gone. Scratch them from your good to buy list. you could run into some outstanding burning pellets for cheap, put those on your good to buy list. Then when you get low on pellets you know what is good and what isn't.

Indeed they all burn and make heat. A Harman makes that part easier than some other stoves do. But indeed some are ashy and or otherwise messy. If messy and you decide to burn them anyway, expect to clean more often.

You got the Oakies at a great price. I've never been able to buy them in my area but would depending on the cost. I've seen them running $300-350 ton on this site. If your really happy with them get another ton and move along.

If you are willing to try HD pellets just buy a few bags to try and make up your mind. You will most likely not get the heat out of them that your used to but each situation is different so you need to try what they are selling and maybe, for the money you'll decide they work fine for you. I would put some money down on them to hold them and then try some bags and make your decision. That way if their in hot command you will be covered. If you don't like them just cancel your order but at least they won't be sold out when you go to get them if you do like them. They go very quickly here like in a few hours.

Maybe you have learned why a lot of use buy our pellets in the off season and buy enough to get us through the heating season and then some. You should have 5-6 tons on hand for a heating season as it sounds like even with another ton you will be short of fuel for the heating season. We still have 2-3 months to go in central NJ and one more ton wouldn't be enough. Don't know your situation.

HD pellets are not going to mess up your stove. You will have to clean it more often and may not get as much heat but they won't damage your stove.

I would pick Stove Chow as they are a decent pellet. You got started on one of the best out there so don't expect them to match the Oakies.

I've been burning "cheap", as you call them Home Depot pellets in my Harman P43 for 2 years, and have never had any issues.
it's 10° outside and a balmy 74° inside my 2000 sq ft chalet

Green Teams did well in my stove. I believe they were Platinum and had good heat with minimal ash.

Is it better to buy early from a web outfit like woodpellets.com , or a local place that does that, or wait 'til fall when HD gets them in?
Is HD dependable, at least: will they have pellets for sure in the fall? It seems they'd be cheaper, right?
My boiler is not that fussy, I believe.

Both by Energex. Probably the same different bags.

And, for what it's worth, Chows, FSU, Greene Team, and (yes) even Green Supreme keep my house warm all winter. All from HD or Lowes.

However I just burned my last 5 bags (4 years old) of Hamers from the Elkins WV plant. Wow! My favorite.

I have burned about 1.5 ton of mixed box store pellets this year in my harman. The only pellets I had an issue with were the Awf white pines because they would funnel in the hopper and the fire would go out. I'm burning Heat'rs right now with no problems.

Worst case scenario (unless you get wet pellets) is having to bump up the stove a little bit and clean the burn pot a little more.
