Question:

I have been looking for a pier model (direct-vent) gas fireplace for our new home, however I have been told that these are very inefficient and do not produce heat. Do you have any suggestions or comments?

Answer:

There are a few companies that make pier models. Heat-n-Glo makes one, as does Temco, FMI. Superior and others. Chances are that most are designed for effect...that is, not too much heat. The exception would be those that are Vent-Free (Temco, FMI maybe others). These will produce quite a bit of heat. Do some more research on both the vented and unvented...you're bound to find one that meets your needs.
