what is the primary reason double wall is used outside the house for woodstove piping? Why can't we use single wall throughout the entire length? Or is it a preference?
Insulated pipe outside the house will keep the smoke from cooling too fast. If it cools too fast, you won't get good draft but you will get good creosote.
You can't pass single-wall pipe through a wall or ceiling penetration...it's a CTC issue. At that point you transition properly from whatever connector pipe (stovepipe) you're using to Class A (insulated) chimney for the rest of the run to daylight. Rick
