My father's came with an 18" bar. Anybody ever throw a $20 14 inch bar from Walmart on one of them?

I'm halfway tempted to do it just to see how much power it has with the short bar. It will have 3cc/inch of bar so it wouldn't be underpowered. It's a fairly lightweight saw too.

My little 33cc Poulan 1975 Woodshark has a 14" bar on it and I love cutting with the little sucker. I have two Husky 142s and a 65cc Poulan Pro 405+ and more often than not I reach for the little Woodshark.

When I had one, I moved it down to a 16" bar and bought some pro chain. The pro chain was the best move.

I have a Craftsman 18" 42cc saw. Does well enough as a light duty homeowner saw...I cut about 5-7 cords a year, not all at once. I've often though that it would be a great limbing saw with a 14" bar on it...with an 18" bar on it, it binds fairly easily...but with a shorter bar it ought to really make good use of the torque its got.

If you do it, post up the results and what parts you used.

Will do. Next time I see it in the store I'll pick up a new bar and chain.

That priming bulb makes it the easiest saw to start.

I know mine is. On, choke, prime and its running by the third pull. Doesn't stall till it runs out of gas. Its a great little saw, just a bit under powered for an 18" bar.

I did the same basic thing with my little 36cc Pull-on... Went from the OEM 16" bar to a 12" bar and good chain. Saw was a real POS with the 16" bar, but with the 12" bar its a little wood eating monster, good for limbing and so forth, definitely a good move.

I also have one of the Craftsman 18" saws.. I've thought about moving it down to a smaller bar for the same reason. I'd be interested to know how it works out for you.

No, my saw is a Poulan Woodsman 2150 or something like that - I purchased it from Harbor Freight as a factory recon. It didn't have a brake, but I have since found a place that sold a replacement chain cover with a brake, so I was able to retrofit one. It does not have a quick adjust tensioner, just the usual screw type. My carb adjusts with the usual small screwdriver (I'd be surprised if yours didn't also, though you may have to deal with some kind of EPA limiting caps...)

I have the saw you are talking about. I have had nothing but great experiences with it. Starts like a charm, never stalls. You don't need any special tool for the idle adjustment.
