We are looking at buying a home with two gas prefab fireplaces that were installed 30 years ago. There are problems with the fireplaces and they need to be replaced and they are not in code. Does anyone have any idea of a range of what it would cost to take these out and replace them. I want to go back to the seller and don't know what to ask for. I prefer having it done myself so I know it is done properly.

I am in Ohio if that matters.

Thanks!!!

I'd start at about $10K for both, but that'd be a guess.
Each unit takes about 4 hours, with a two man crew to remove it.
New install will take about the same amount of time , with the same crew.
Add the price of new gas units that are both visually pleasing & good heaters.
You MIGHT be able to save some money by reusing the old mantels.
