Problems with a Taylor 450

We have a Taylor 450 and within the past week the temperature in our house has been dropping - its actually chilly in here now We have noticed that there is smoke leaking around the door on the stove and the temp is only getting to about 140. Can any one tell us what is going on and how to fix this problem??

sounds like ceosote has built up in the exaust stack or passages.

I agree with Leaddog,if it has water,look for soot blockage..Dave

drop a chiminey brush thru the chiminey and then clean the "smoke box" thru the small door over the top of the wood filling door. Wouldn't hurt to run your 4" brush thru the tubes in the back of the firebox
i throe 1/2 box of salt over the firewood (in thee firebox once a week or so--seems to deter creosote builup

Give it a good cleaning Then run the draft open a little farther to keep the creosote burned out. Another thing to check is the fins on your draft fan. We had the fins get full of ash one time so the fan still ran but moved very little air.

I'm wondering if salt might corrode the firebox, etc. I know you're not supposed to burn driftwood from the ocean in a fireplace because it can corrode the damper and flue.

My Mother always threw salt in the oven when she set dinner on fire.

My granddad and father both did it in our inside woodstoves (salt and potato peelings) i can't remember ever replacing either stove.
