Progress Hybrid Creosote Buildup around the damper?

Hey folks, I’d appreciate any insight or advice. I’ve attached a couple pictures that shows what was blocking my damper from closing, it appears to be buildup of some kind around the actual liner for the air intake of the damper? Does creosote normally do this in that area for PH users? If it’s not normal any suggestions for prevention and safe maintenance? I’ll be calling Woodstock tomorrow

but wanted to see if others had similar experience or suggestions first. TIA!

That looks like a chunk of furnace cement to me. Definitely not creosote

I guess that’s good? Is that a normal thing for furnace cement to eventually...crumble? I can see it has the fibers of the seals used in other places. Thanks for your response this is my first year so to really trying to be cautious.

It looks like it was probably excess that oozed out and then came off when you fired it
