Proper Topper

After reading this thread on the Extendaflue, I spoke a bit to the administrator and purchased a couple of proper toppers.

This setup gives me 1 more foot of draft, and prevents draft crossover with my fireplace in the basement. I think it looks pretty damn good too! I've included the before and after pictures below.

Product came very fast, seems very user friendly and of high quality. So far so good! Total install time..... 10 minutes.

Tonight I'll light her up and enjoy.

Now I don't think a cap like that would get so easily plugged...they just should have made them like that in the 1st place. Sad to see good old American ingenuity sell out.

Not sure what your setup looks like.... I think these are primarily designed to go onto a terra-cotta flue.

Notice how the cap in the bottom pic is noticeably taller. Cap users here are always reporting in on plugged caps. Caps restrict flow allowing smoke to cool while still in the chimney.

Actually, if you have HT pipe that is not air cooled - meaning dead air space, etc, then chances are that you may be able to do something.....like put a CC1212 model around the pipe - or even a PT1212 - the harder part is building and flashing a base with a level top on it to receive the unit.

I'm telling you though, closeout prices now on my existing stock. Depression sale. If you don't buy 'em, they may end up being melted down.......

Yes, well, my personal challenges aside...all I'm talkin' about is the cap itself. I like the dimensions of the cap...lots of open area. Something that would attach directly onto my chimney pipe in place of the stock Simpson cap. Taller. (I didn't say longer). Rick

Seems a shame. If these things are as durable as they look and feel, then this is a once in a lifetime purchase.

I can almost guarantee that by installing mine today, I prevented my house from losing ANOTHER 5k in value this month. %-P

Wow, your installation is almost identical to mine. Same roof location, same height, both Simpson. However, I can walk on my roof.
