Pure White Ash

Newbie. Something really spooky. It is a new stove to us, but we are on our 20th f.c. this season so far...... this is the first time we have ash that is totally white. I mean totally white. The wood seems a little more seasoned being it was at the bottom of the pile????? I am always worried about build up in the pipe....anyone have white ash before? Something to be concerned about?

What kind of wood? Out here in the wild west, many of us burn only softwoods. One of them I burn a fair amount of is Juniper. The ash remaining after Juniper burns is nearly pure white and very light. Different from the ash from Pine, Larch, or Fir. Also sounds like you're getting very thorough combustion from that fuel, which is a good thing. Rick

my thoughts too. i occasionally get pure white ash that is almost weightless and collapses when you touch it. i always just assumed it meant i got every last bit of fuel out of it. but i suppose you could have regular ash that just happens to be white too depending what you burn. you could always post a picture!

Do you know the kind of wood it is? I get that when burning ash. Other woods like maple coal better and seem to have darker ash when burnt.

I had about 2 cords of seasoned White Pine to burn this year. It would leave a fine white ash when burned. Talk about LIGHT. You could pick up a butt end of that stuff and throw it like Superman! Best shoulder season stuff ever. ;-)
