Quadra-Fire 7100 being installed tomorrow!

Well, after a house fire on March 14 and 140K in damages, we are finally to the point where our new fireplace will be installed. We are putting in the 7100 with one heat zone in the basement and aux air piped to the same area. I'll post pictures of the project as we move along!

I have enjoyed reading all the great post on the website. I know that they have helped me a lot.

The brick masons finished up the face of the fireplace on Thursday of this week. We are still waiting for the mantel to be completed and that won't be done for three more weeks. I'll make sure to post more pictures when the mantel is complete. Let me know what you think.

Nice installation. I like the brickwork detail, it compliments the 7100 very well.

The fire was the result of the fireplace. Specifically, the installation of the fireplace. The clearances were not maintained during installation and after sixteen years of use the wood frame became dry enough to caatch fire. There was only a quarter inch clearance between the fireplace and the wood frame on the left side (right side was burned away). We closed on the house at 3:00 p, March 13 and we were calling 911 at 4:00 a, March 14.

Wow, that must have been awful. Glad you're getting back to normalcy and can enjoy the new place. Presumably with the closing, insurance was in place.

There was a builder around here that built fireplaces where you could reach up behind the lintel and grab a 2x4. No they weren't gas. Too many lawsuits made him declare bankruptcy, not pay judgements and re-emerge as a new builder.

CarbonNeutral, we were very blessed. Everyone was able to get out safely and our insurance was in place. I was still sweating-it, because they did not have a policy number yet. The insurance company hadn't even received the check from the closing, which was sent on Monday after the Saturday fire.

I appreciate all the feedback on the brick work. I don't know how many different ideas I had in my head about how we could do the design. My wife and I went back forth for quite awhile on granite or brick, hearth or low profile. I guess it's just the beginning of my wood burning obsession

The mantel was installed yesterday and my wife and I are very happy with the way it all came together. Wednesday, we were a little concerned after visiting the shop where our mantel was being built. When we first saw the top, we thought that it was huge! We put a tape measure to the top of the mantel and it measured 99 inches. Needless to say, we were concerned about how it would look in our house, but after Thursday's, we feel a lot better. I've attached a picture to share the end result. I would attach a couple more, however, I cannot figure out how to do more than one at a time. Maybe another post.

That looks awfully close for that unit. I think any part of the combustible mantle needs to start at least 60 inches from the bottom of the fireplace.

I think it's just the way the picture looks on the web. We made sure the the bottom of the mantel is at 60" and the header is at 50". You are right about the 60" manufacturer's specs for the mantel. The header called for minimum of 48". I assume that since it is flat against the brick, they allow less height.

One house fire was enough! Never want to go through that again. Thanks for the concern.
