Quadrafire CB 1200 FS Thermocouple & Cover Question?

Hi Everyone,

I noticed recently that my Thermocouple Cover has a hole on the end of it and needs to be replaced. My question is if I need to now replace the actual Thermocouple too or if I can still use the existing one? The stove still runs fine, but the end of the Thermocouple has the beading protection missing from it that should be on it. The local stove shop said I should do both, but wanted to check here first if it was absolutely necessary to do or if I could get away with just the Thermocouple Cover. Do I risk when I install the new Cover the Thermocouple breaking or not work anymore? Curious if I'm better off replacing both now and save issues down the road. Trying to not have to spend money if I don't have to.

Gman, not sure about the Quad CB 1200 but I do have a Quad MVAE and FWIW if that condition existed on my stove I would only replace the cover. Your current thermo may last several more years while a new one may only last a year. No one knows. Let us know what you decide.

That's what I was thinking of doing since it's working right now. Try to get as long as I can out of it and just buy the Cover.

I have a CB 1200, and my thermocouple cover burnt through several years ago. I replaced the cover only, and everything is fine. Thermocouple still working fine 3 years after replacing cover.

I end up replacing the ceramic cover every couple years. My thermocouple has been working fine.

Hi, so my stove has been working great until I took off the old Thermocouple Cover and replaced it today with the new one I just got. It still starts up and drops pellets like it should, but it will only go for a little bit and then the fire goes down and it goes out. I have it on a SkyTech Wireless Thermostat which also had no problems prior. I have it set to 70 which it usually goes until 72 and shuts down, then turns back on at 68. It now shuts off before my set temp. Could anything of happened to the Thermocouple itself when replacing the Cover? Also does the Thermocouple have to be completely touching the very end of the Cover or it won't work right or can it still work correctly if it's not quite touching the end? Also, how far over the burnpot does it have to be? Last question, can the Thermocouple wire itself be bent a little to get it to fit just right in the Cover? Thanks for any help or tips. Right now I put the stove on Medium setting to test and it looks to be going ok as of now. I had it previously on Low which never had any issues using.

Yes, it has to be touching the end of the cover. And it should be sticking into the pot 3/4 to 1 ". And yes you can bend them some, but be careful as too much can crack the coatings and cause issues. kap

hello everyone,I have a bixby maxfire 115 and did an overhaul on it cleaned inside and out.The problem is when I start the stove she runs fine for about 10 minutes then shuts down.I checked the thermocouple wire and it is connected.I need help from the pros and am wondering if its a bad wire or is it something else?Thanks
