So I’ve recently purchased a house that has a good bit of anthracite in the garage from the previous owner. I’ve come across a used, but mint condition VC Vigilant that was purchased new in 2015. I need to hear about 1500sq ft, would this be a good stove to have in my home? I was looking at a Hitzer 30-95, but this Vigilant is about half the price. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks

The Vigilant has not been in production for decades.

Hmm, that’s interesting. I didn’t know they were discontinued that far back, I thought it was more recent. In any case, it looks very nice and well kept. I think I’m leaning towards it, it seems like it could heat the 1500sq ft I have

Why were they discontinued for they are very pretty stoves..old mrs clancey

They didn't meet emissions standards for wood and the market for coal is very small. VC has always made great looking stoves. Their function reliability and customer service on the other hand have not always been great

if it's in top shape i wouldn't pay more than $800.00. what do they want for the stove?

About 1k after some touching up and cleaning. It’s half the price of the new Hitzer I was looking at. It’s less than what I paid for a new pellet stove a few years back as well. Is that price a bit high? I’ve looked all around and can’t really seem to find anything used, let alone used that’s in the same shape it seems.

it is that time of year. in the craiglist here in mass there are plenty of wood not coal vigilants for 4 to 750. but they arn't coal. if it is in that good of condition and you are short on money go for it. that'll hold you till you can buy a new one. just make sure all the grates work smooth.

Yeah $1000 seems high to me but they are fairly good coal stoves so if you want it try to talk them down a bit but it isn't a horrible price.

I have 2 Vig coal stoves (1400 and 2310). Love them! If complete and in good shape, $1k is a fair price and it will pay for itself in no time since you already have coal for it.
