Note... @Highbeam's source is $581 for two cat's shipped, less if I also order door gaskets. My local dealer wanted $980.

@BKVP... are you listening? Your local dealers SUCK!

Perfect! That's exactly what I've been asking for.

So, does Ashford 30.1 front door take the 7/8" gasket, or the 1-1/4"?

@BKVP, did you know about these guys?yes

They are selling a more costly version. But to be honest, some prices are over priced....

Notice that those cats are about exactly the same price as midwest hearth's. Hmmm. Are they just cutting out the dealer profit margin of 200%? or are they reselling you midwest cats.

Hechlers appears to be just a dealer that took it upon themselves to implement a good online sales interface and due to automation they don't need to upcharge (gouge) so much.

Welcome to the world. It’s not a perfect place especially for a company that has to rely on other companies to sell, install and maintain their product. Name a product that has a perfect batch of dealerships. It isn’t the automobile business. It isn’t the heavy equipment business. It isn’t any company that big box stores sell their product line. Try and get an answer from an employee at one of them about a product. Probably whatever you do for work I’m sure incompetence exists somewhere.
BK can do what’s possible to keep dealers up on best practices but it’s then up to them to continue education and pass it along to employees. The work force isn’t what it used to be, stove shops trying to get good help has to be a challenge as well.
Would it be better if BK sold parts direct? I think it would be. A online store would be great but not many stove companies do that so it’s not a bk exclusive. It’s also a benefit for dealers to have their territory for parts sales.
I have to give bkvp credit, I don’t see any other manufacturers on here posting almost daily and there’s a reason for it. Interacting online is like throwing yourself to the sharks nowadays, I wouldn’t want to deal with half the jackasses in the world today in person never mind online where people can hide behind screen names and most likely wouldn’t say to someone’s face what they type out on a keyboard. Things could be better but they can always be worse.

7/8". Yes, they are a dealer.

Thanks! I think I have my new BK dealer, then. Their prices on all parts with which I'm familiar look pretty reasonable. No $100 shipping charges, either.

Maybe my local guys are just applying the special "Historic Bucks County" mark-up. ;lol

It's routine for manufacturers to set policies and standards that must be upheld, if an independent dealer wants to sell their product. I'm a manufacturer, and I do this, not just anyone can carry and market my product however they want.

I do believe BK already eliminated one local dealership, who actually bragged to me on my first visit, about intentionally damaging a customer's roof. What an embarrassment, for any manufacturer, to have someone like that representing their brand.

I'm not going to tell BK how to run their business, but having dealers who blatantly gouge customers on pricing really does hurt the brand reputation, and cost them sales when customers favor other dealerships who only carry competing brands.

BK makes great stoves, arguably the best on the market, in my opinion. But my "dealership experience" has been mostly better with other brands. I realize this may just be a local problem, isolated to the three local BK dealers with whom I've interfaced, and not universal.

For anyone else shopping BK parts, note I paid $756 with tax and shipping from Hechler's online store. My local dealer wanted $1306 for the same list of parts.

I can afford to throw $550 in the toilet for no reason, but I don't like to.

@BKVP, these dealers are giving your company a black eye. Again, great stoves, but this type of thing can't be helping BK's sales or reputation.

All,

I had knee replacement surgery today. I'll be slow to respond, but will do so. If it requires input, please send an email to cneufeld@blazeking.com and direct my attention to thread. Appreciate you understanding. Individuals blocked, sorry but it won't get to me.
