Quick sheetrocking question

I'm putting up sheetrock over an existing ceiling. It's a quick and dirty way to get rid of the popcorn. The room is 13x 23, so I need an 8 ft piece and a 5 ft piece to go across the room.
The question is do I stagger the 8 ft and 5 ft pieces (like bricks) or line up all the 8 ft for one long joint the length of the room.

Definitely stagger. That way your eye won't be drawn to the joint when you tape it.

You're always supposed to stagger. Less chance of having seam issues.

Stagger. I did this is my place. The two layers of sheet rock help with sound dampening.

I didn't think it made a difference...if the taping is done properly and you double up screws (since it is hanging from the ceiling), it should be good. I just find one seam is easier than multiple.

But I learned today that I was wrong!!

Mmm, 14' wallboard..... You'll definitely need a friend but will have half the finishing work.....

I would consider 2 - 12 footers, one long seam down the middle, and a very good job at taping and finishing. It can be done.

13' wide room. There would be three seams wide.

Never line joints up. You are looking for cracks down the road, especially if this room has a wood stove in it. There is a reason all dry wall guys stagger the seams.

If you not good at taping and spackling, install the sheetrock then get a sheetrocker to tape and spackle for you. I do it all the time for people. They get me through HomeAdvisor.
