RC 300 won't start the fireplace

Gentlemen,
the original RC300 remote is failing to start the flame. The "big button" won't even light up the remote's screen. At the same time, the"menu" and other buttons work and communicate to the fireplace.
Batteries are new.
is there anything i can do to fix it?

You said the batteries are NEW. Have they been tested for full charge? Each battery should have more than 1.5vDC.
Are the batteries UNDER the unit fully charged, as well?

they are all 1.38... Replaced with 1.58, still a no-go. I can turn on the lights and pilot remotely. the burner is the only function that i can't operate using the remote.

there are no batteries there. never was any....
