After reading a recent thread about possible chimney overdrafting, including an article which described the relatively low draft conditions involved in the EPA testing procedure, I thought it might be interesting to see what, if any, chimney height or draft is being recommended for various stove models. To get things started, here are the quotes from the manuals of my three stoves (all non-cats). It was interesting to see the varying levels of specificity (cough) in the information given.

Quad 2100 Millenium (ACT):
"Your Quadra-Fire stove was designed for and tested on a 6” (152mm) chimney, 12’-14’ (360-420cm) high, (includes stove
height) measured from the base of the stove."

"To be sure that your Quadra-Fire stove burns properly, the chimney draft (static pressure) should be approximately -.10”
water column (W.C.) during a high burn and -.04” W.C. during a low burn, measured 6” (152mm) above the top of the stove
after one hour of operation at each burn setting."

"We recommend using a minimum total system height of 12' (360cm), measured from the flue collar to the top of the
chimney (not including chimney cap)."

Jotul F602 CB:
"Chimneys shorter than 14' may not provide adequate draft. This could result in smoke spilling the room from the door
or joints in the stove or pipe. In addition, inadequate draft can cause puffing. A too-strong draft, on the other hand,
cause excessive temperatures and can shorten burn times. Excessive drafts can be corrected by having your
dealer install a barometric damper at 0.1" of water column."

Nestor Martin X33:
"The recommended draft requirements for your stove is no less than -.04" and no greater than -.08". Operation of your stove with a draft greater than -.08" can possibly cause damage to the stove and void the warranty."

Gotta love Morso though, pretty much cut and dry.

For the 3610:

We recommend the length of the chimney system should be at least 16 feet (not required)
above the stove in normal domestic situations, measured from the flue collar to the top of the
chimney.
Local conditions like for example - roof constructions, large trees nearby and high altitude,
may influence the chimney draft and height. Therefore, contact the local professional chimney
sweep or your Morsø dealer.

Start with 16 feet, if that aint enough call Craig :)

Woodstock recommends a minimum of 14' from the stoves flue collar. It seems that most manufactures recommend somewhere between 13-15'. Probably some kind of standard hight for testing.
