Hey everyone,

I’m hoping to get some advice from other Drolet Escape 1800 owners.

I’ve had mine for about 6 years, and this winter I’ve noticed it doesn’t seem to be working quite the same as before. The wood is burning a lot faster than it used to, even though I’m burning the same kind of wood and running the stove pretty much the same way I always have.

So far I’ve checked a couple things:
  • The door gasket looks good
  • At the start of the season, I removed one washer from the handle for the air control adjustment

I’m just trying to figure out:
  • Is this something that can happen as the stove gets older?
  • Have any of you noticed similar changes over time?
  • Anything specific I should be checking or servicing?

Any tips or experiences would be really appreciated.
Thanks in advance!

If the door gasket is 6 yrs old, it likely needs replacement even if it looks good. Test the door gasket seal by doing the dollar bill test around all sides. Also, make sure the baffle is in good condition and all the way back so that no flue gases are bypassing it at the back of the firebox.
