Hi,

I have a Regency GF55 freestanding that I have had and used for about 11 years. I used to be able to set the stove at the highest set and not have an issue. Recently the high limit switch keeps tripping anytime I have the stove past the #2 heat setting. I cleaned and oil the motor, which I never did before. I put the stove on #5 and it tripped after about 25 minutes. I don't have the knowledge to bypass components and diagnose any further. I can however, remove and replace parts. Any suggestions before I call a company out to fix it? I don't think it's the high limit switch because that seems to be doing its job. Thanks in advance.

Might be not enough airflow through the heat exchanger, causing the stove to overheat. The heat exchanger actually cools the stove in the process of heating the room. A thorough cleaning of the room fan and all its passages is indicated. Make sure that the sqirrel cage and/or fan blades of the room blower are very clean. Also, make sure that the motor is turning at the proper speed. The air passages of the heat exchanger may be plugged with dust, especially considering the age of the stove.

The stove may be overfeeding - is the flame unusually high?

Thanks. The flame is not unusually high so I don't think its overfeeding. I will clean the room fan. I only cleaned the one fan which also needed to be oiled. ( not sure what that one is called) but it sits right behind the control panel. I cleaned the heat exchange tubes and have always stayed current on that. I'll try cleaning the other fan tomorrow. Thanks for the reply.

On the right side of stove looking at it
Number 3 in picture pull that fan clean cage and motor and oil motor should be oiled twice a tear
D holes

Did it shut down or did the Hi-Temp switch trip?

The high temp limit trips. The stove will then stop dropping pellets. The exhaust fans stays on for a while and then it will turn off completely. I can press the on button after it shuts down. The exhaust fan will turn on but it will not drop pellets until I reset the high limit switch.

Is the convection fan working ( The one that moves air into the room?)

Is the stove really hot when switch pops?
If the stove is not overly hot Poss Hi-Temp
switch is weak and needs replacement
When did the stove get a full back to front cleaning
including the chimney.

Yes, the stove is hot when the high limit trips. I regularly clean it. Once every couple weeks. But that is usually cleaning the heat exchangers, and taking off the 3 internal panels and vacuuming in there. Today was the first time I ever removed and cleaned that fan and well as oiled it. Not on purpose, I just didn't know I was supposed too. Just learned about it as I looked into this issue. Thanks for your responses so far.

A faulty high limit switch? I figured since I was able to manually reset it, it wasn't faulty. I guess I'll replace it. It's the cheapest part so maybe it's a good start. Thanks

yes over time it could get weak and pop at a lower temp
