Hey all, I know its off the hearth subject, But does anyone here know of rental cabins or cottages in the Upstate NY, Pensilvania, New Jersey, Connecticut area? Trying to take the family up somewhere this winter. I guess this is hearth related since they usually have wood stoves or fireplaces in those things. ha ha ha.

A bit of a drive but a real interesting trip would be to the Maine Huts and Trails "huts" in Maine. These are full service year round heated lodges out in the Maine woods. One of them is on the shore of maine's 5th largest lake, Flagstaff. They serve meals and the lodge and the adjacent bunkhouses (equipped with beds with mattreses) are heated with radiant heat. LL Beans supported the construction and outfitting of them. They both require a walk through the woods to get to them but the Flagstaff one is only about 2 miles along a flat woods road. They have a groomed cross country ski trail connecting the huts. Both huts are off grid and generate their own electric power plus they have Tarm gasifers for heat and hot water. They have a couple of private rooms and a couple of bunkrooms. Eventually they are planning to build a 180 mile chain of huts.

This place is just north of Syracuse and gets a boatload of snow.

There website is down for some reason tonight...pretty sure they have yurts and access to great cross country skiing.
