I have noticed cracks in my fire bricks in my VC Resolute Acclaim 2490 and today was a warm day with little need for a fire, so I decided to pull them out and inspect them. All four bricks are in pretty bad shape and the replacement cost for all four bricks would be $384. ($120 each for the two rear arch bricks and 72 each for the two side bricks.)
I am going to attempt to repair them with Imperial Brand "Stove & Fireplace Cement & Mortar" which it claims to withstand up to 2100F with its claimed "superior bonding".
Any words of advice?
If it does not work, any suggestions on good (cheaper) sources for VC fire bricks?
