Feeling the Heat

wondering if i put a metal plate say round a quarter inch over my existing grate and shovel ashes out by hand would it be a good idea? I was just gonna sovel the ashes out by hand instead of using the ashpan. my rear grate is warped from the heat so i was gonna try to straighten it up before i buy one. i also need a combustion chamber. wish the stove wasnt so labor intensive

Ya, the maintenance not only sucks, it is too frequent and costly.
