On average...what would our long time burners say is the average life of rope gaskets? Will I know when its time to replace before air leaks?

You know about the dollar bill test, right?

As long as it looks good, it is. Until you run out of adjustment.

Yup...familiar with dollar bill test...what adjustments?

On my 5-year old BK, I've tightened the door catch some when starting to get some slippage on the dollar-bill test, but now, it passes everywhere but between the hinges. I figure that means the gasket is worn out, because tightening the catch can't really change how tight it is on the hinge side.

To clarify for us newbies: "dollar bill test:" close a dollar bill in the door and you shouldn't be able to pull it free very easily? :D
