Called a lumber yard who's selling pellets for the first time and they quoted me tax. I told them no tax on heating fuel in Ma. and they replied "Well there's tax on THESE pellets." They lost a sale. Remember, most places should not be charging tax on pellets or cord wood, so don't pay it unless you know otherwise. By the guy's attitude I could tell he'd heard the argument before, but he wasn't about to give up 5% profit. Either he really thinks he's right or he's in for a big surprise when he pays the sales taxes collected for his business. I'm guessing he let too many people purchase from his yard tax exempt and is trying to make it up this way.
