I had to share this, because I would have loved to know about it when I was doing all the big projects after buying my house.

1) You can buy gift cards off ebay, usually for less than their face value. I have seen $300 lowes gift cards go for about $275.

2) You can also buy coupons on ebay. 10% off home depot/Lowes are great. There are lots of others, especially harborfreight coupons too.

Between the two you can usually make out pretty well. I have bought a few of the lowes 10% coupons before.

of course its ebay, so buyer beware. But especially for big projects/tool buys, thats a lot of money.

I missed the boat after buying my house to really make out well with these, but figured I would share the suggestion.
Rick

Good tip.. kinda makes sense. A gift card is just money that was once good everywhere, but is now only good at one place.

You can get the 10% off Lowes coupon at your local post office. Just go in and ask for a change of address packet. My salesman at Lowes encouraged me to get as many as I needed while rebuilding my workshop. Saved around $800 so far and counting.

Many times you can get a Lowe's or Home Depot 10% off just by calling the company, especially if you have one of their charge cards.
