I am getting sloppy seconds, but at least they left me some locust. Seems they passed over the Ash and Walnut, and there was one other tree I could not identify during my scout. This is approximately 300' yds from my house and I have had to look at it the past 3-4 months, I was just granted permission to cut as the farmers are ready to plow/plant. He took it all down to prevent shade and moisture control. I have my chains ready as this locust is mighty dirty. This will be the new trucks maiden wood voyage ....

Definitely, that locust alone will do a chain in pretty quick, even with out the dirt. But I imagine you are going to be plenty happy stuffing that in your stove some cold night a few Januarys from now.

A bit dirty but like said. touch up the chain now & then.

It's good wood & will be worth the effort.

Pic of unknown will be here soon for help ... Either way it will be heat! A true change from the recently dropped locust coming in at 17% on the mm. We were gung ho on that stand, but times they are a changing, and its garden prep time! I can cut this solo seein as the wife can look out the door and make sure im upright ....

Oak ?




My Guess is more oak?

Got the Locust home and heading back down for more, needed a quick glance at the BTU chart Ash 21.6 vs Walnut at 20.0. Not much difference, so after I grab this suspected oak I will be heading to whichever is easier to get.

Well now im thinking its locust. Just not used to this type of bark on locust. Could it be Osage?

By the looks of that field, it might be a while yet before he is ready to plow/plant. In addition, that area seems to get lots of rain and April tends to be wet anyway. The locust looks good.

I hope it is BS! I have been driving by it daily, I can see it from my living room, its been torture!

I think I ended up with some Mulberry, Locust, and Norway maple, (The maple is the only I am 100% sure of though.) I had myself psyched out that what I thought was locust was actually poplar, but I'm back to thinking it is locust, specially having looked at the mulberry stacked to the right.
