Just 4 days ago I thought that all the wind blown trees in the area have been processed, now what?

Just then I picked up contact with a local tree feller. He dropped some wood at my front gate and invited me to join him on Saturday where he is contracted to clear a section of land. On Thursday, mother nature left me a nice surprise as well, less than a mile from home. A bit a awkward tree which blew over and under tension but I will get through it with some careful planning.

So 4 days later I have an additional 1.5 cords of Eucalyptus to split and stack. I have also found out that my new splitter has no problem with this twisty grain eucalyptus. The tree man said he will fell some more trees for me which I can cut up next weekend.

C'mon, is there really a need for heat in South Africa? That is a nice hook up. How much do you burn in a year?

In Johannesburg it is five in the morning and 49 degrees right now. Little chilly.

I am along the coast so it does not really get that cold. I burn around 1.5 cords a year but want to sell off some wood next year to recover some cost for the toys I had/wanted to get.

I am trying to educate my friends in using proper seasoned wood, so hopefully when the penny drops, I'll be ready to supply

You have an good eye! That Defender is doing all the work at the moment since I only have a trailer to collect my wood.

All this wood was cut in the middle of the city, so it does not look that much different.

I thought I'll incude a pic which explains why a maul is useless on this bluegum/eucalyptus. The grain is not only twisted but looks like a spring inside. This acts like a spring board when smacking it with a maul. My Chinese splitter fortunately has no problem with it., so far.

Wow, I thought sweet gum was bad.... that looks brutal.
