I also have an heatilator style masonry fireplace with minor rust, I currently use ventless gas logs,the damper is sealed with cerawool. I would like to seal the side vents and use decorative laminate stone to refinish it. Is what I 'm doing safe? and if so what would be a safe way to fill and seal the vents?
